MBP EFI Firmware 2.7 not installing

Every time I run Software Update runs it tells me I need to install the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7, it downloads the firmware and requests that I reboot. At which point the system reboots but the new firmware is not flashed. Next time I run Software Update I am again told I need to install the firmware, same happens etc...

According to the update this includes version MBP81.0047.27 of the Boot ROM, accotrding to System Information I am currently running version MBP81.0047.B24.

Why is this firmware not installing?

The latest firmware is listed as MP81.0047.B27 and I have MP81.0047.B24 installed, so I download the appropriate installer and followed the instructions as listed. Same behaviour, the firmware isn't flashed.

Something is clearly strange with my system, I'll file an issue with Apple.

Thanks for all the help with this.

I had the exact same situation. I tried over and over again and I had the same result - a reboot with no installation.

I followed the link provided by wjosten and I followed it to a "T".

From previous attempts, the following three things were changed:

1. Closed ALL applications

2. Shut down bluetooth - so it wouldn't be detecting external devices

3. Connected Macbook to powersource

Once these were done - I re-ran the MacUpdate.

This time, when the Mac re-booted, the firmware was updated.

Thanks for posting this advice!
