iMovie quit unexpectedly

I have been using iMovie since I got my mac in Jan., but one specific movie crashes when I try to ex[ort to finder, iTunes, etc., even though the other movies work. I'm getting very annoyed. I reinstalled lion and deleted the com.Apple.iMovieApp.plist thing. Heeeelllp! 😕😟

CWIX, since the problem only affects that one movie, evidently the problem is with some element in that movie, and it's not obvious to you exactly what it could be.

Try this: in the Finder, locate your movie project and duplicate it. Open the duplicate and delete half of it. See if you can export that half.

If that export works OK, make another duplicate and delete the other half.

Following this logic, you will eventually find the troublesome clip, transition, title, or audio that is causing the overall project to crash when you export it.

Lacking any other obvious problem, perhaps such a strategy is worth considering.

Thanks for the update.

There seem to be a lot of complaints about this, clearly it's a bug and for now we might just have to wait until Apple fixes things. You've done more than can be reasonably expected of anyone to work around it.

Until then, I can suggest the following - most of these suggestions sound like voodoo and they probably are, but at this point we have no other information with which to propose an effective solution:

  • Rename the iMovie project - problems with non-alpha characters have been reported
  • Try a different compressions type - Apple Intermediate Codec for example.
  • Try a different compression algorithm - if it's H.264 for instance, choose Best Quality vs. Faster Encode and experiment with different quality

Of the many complaints I've read, those seem to be the most logical.

I have this same problem and need help. The only time I can export is if I have no text, backgrounds or separated audio inside my video.

I would really like help if possible!

I have trashed plists, I have exported in every possible setting and option, I have renamed, removed and copied back. I have verified my disk and have attempted to export to every possible folder that makes sense on my macbookpro.

I'm grateful for any help anyone can lend... I'm lost!
