Dec 25, 2013 10:28 AM in response to ismegamanthereby turingtest2,My understanding is that iTunes for Mac should attempt to reformat the drive as HFS+ which may clear up the pending sector issue. Bring it back to a PC and ITunes will refomat back to FAT32. No guarantee, but as you say, worth a shot.
Best of luck.

Dec 25, 2013 11:38 AM in response to turingtest2by ismegamanthere,Strange, I tried the DFU recovery again and this time it actually started to detect my iPod and start the recovery process. Unfortunately, the recovery process stops right before finishing. Ah well, guess I'll try out a Mac.

Dec 26, 2013 12:30 AM in response to turingtest2by Decrescendo,Hi tt2,
Please help me, your opinion required:
Retracts: 162
Reallocs: 930
Pending Sectors: 11
PowerOn Hours: 5
Start/Stops: 162
Temp Current: 28 C
Temp Min: 25 C
Temp Max: 38 C
Is there any hope?
I can hardly sync 20-25 songs. I read somewhere that full-formatting the disk may convert pending sectors into reallocs. So I tried but cannot full-format the iPod, error by Windows: 'Windows was unable to complete the format.'
Then I thought that partitioning may be a good idea, and i partitioned the disk to 50 GB instead of
(Though Surface Test did not show any errors in the disk.) Still of no use.

Dec 26, 2013 6:26 AM in response to Decrescendoby turingtest2,The overall numbers don't look that bad bar the unresolved pendings. DFU restore, third party format tool or forcing an alternate format by switching between PC and Mac are the things that come to mind. Other things that can interfere with the sync process are issues with the source drive and antivirus software.

Dec 26, 2013 8:45 AM in response to turingtest2by Decrescendo,Thanks tt2!! I used EaseUS partition master and this time I avoided the initial 10 GB part as well as last 5 GB. The remaining part is working perfectly as of now!
Thank you again for your posts and prompt reply. I was struggling for this since last 2 days and nights and your previous posts proved very useful for understanding the problem.

Dec 28, 2013 5:23 PM in response to turingtest2by hippolyta,Hi
My ipod classic is just 5 months old and it's not been shaked, dropped, etc. so I'm not sure what's gone wrong. It started skipping certain tracks mid-song about a month ago and as the frequency of this has increased I decided to restore. The restore wiped the ipod, but seems to have corrupted it somehow. Now I can connect the ipod to itunes, but it says the ipod capacity is zero kb and only gives me the option of doing another restore. When I plug it in, itunes now tells me either that its in recovery mode and needs restoring, or that its corrupted and needs restoring. I've tried restoring multiple times without success, I only get the error 1439 each time. I've tried putting it in disc mode and restoring, but this also doesn't work. I've tried to reformat several times- sometimes it says it works, sometimes it says it doesn't- regardless of whether it works or not, every time I plug in my ipod, windows tells me it needs reformatting. I've tried the DFU restore, and this also doesn't work.
Is there anything else I can try before I send it back?
Its stats are:
Retracts: 1
Reallocs: 4144
Pending sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 106
Start/Stops: 2452
Temp current: 29c
Temp min: 13c
Temp max: 50c
Thanks!

Dec 28, 2013 5:41 PM in response to hippolytaby turingtest2,Nope, it sounds like you have a lemon but at least it is still in warranty. You want an iPod with zero, or at least near zero reallocs. Get it replaced now, it isn't going to get any better by itself.

Jan 4, 2014 8:02 PM in response to turingtest2by JYabbz ,iPod Video 30GB -- error 69
What I did:
---- Restored multiple times but still get the error 69 code
---- Reformated then restored but still get the 69 code
---- Put on Disk Mode then Data Management and fixed the error but still get the 69 code but with a different song
---- Found the source of the corrupt song/file and removed but still get the 69 code on a different song when the previous song is error free on my other ipods
What I think:
---- potential hard drive failure as sound plays on the audio jack
---- will probably do a hard drive swap with another ipod and see if that is the issue
Thoughts???

Jan 5, 2014 2:43 AM in response to JYabbzby turingtest2,The hard drive is probably done. It might be that 1023 is the max, number of reallocs possible on that drive. I just serviced an HP laptop with a drive that was limited to only 255 and had failed because it had reached the limit.

Jan 22, 2014 5:53 PM in response to familyfishnby sd6636,Hello. My 120 GB Ipod Classic was obtained used over a year ago online from someone who likely had it for a year or two. The last couple months, whenever I put my ipod into the USB, like most of the other comments, it eventually freezes itunes up while syncing and then itunes unfreezes when the device is disconnected. I have used different adaptors and tried deinstalling/reinstalling itunes. Messages such as "Verifying Ipod" and errors like "disk cannot be found" show up. Anyway, these are the numbers. Do you have any suggestions and does the Hard Drive maybe have to be replaced? Thanks.

Jan 22, 2014 6:41 PM in response to sd6636by turingtest2,None pending is good, reallocs is a little high, but as long at the number isn't increasing then any issues on the drive have probably been mapped out. Do you have a good cable to connect with? Are you ejecting the device properly? You could try using the DFU restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic, then the Break up large transfers tip. That might result in more stability. Otherwise a new hard drive, or a new/second hand replacement iPod should be considered.

Jan 23, 2014 12:37 PM in response to turingtest2by sd6636,I tried those methods and syncing 5 smart playlists of 10GB each worked until I got to around 9000 songs from the last playlist, then the problem occured again. I may just have to replace the hard drive or get another one. Any other suggestions or maybe a repair has to be done.
