Q: How to convert songs to ringtones?

On iTunes I paid for Beatles songs that were labelled as ringtones.  I changed the extension to .m4r on a couple but they are too long to be used as ringtones.  How do I take a chunk of a song and convert it (shorten it) suitably to be used as a ringtone?  I am using a Mac computer.

Did you change the start/stop time back to its original length?

    Select the iPhone in iTunes.

    CLlck the Tones tab.

Tick the tones you want to sync.

    Sync.

On the iPhone, Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.

    Select the ringtone you want.

Yeah ! Super Advice Chris CA, a few minor variations on desktop but overall it worked out perfect for Royksopp Eple. Mp3

Reduced it down to 37 seconds 1.7Mb now it fits on my Motorola V3. Once again thanks for the super advice. Continue the good work !

I may be in the wrong thread. I have the iPhone 6 and am PC Windows 8 based. I have been through the steps to create the AAC file, shorten the song and drag it to the desktop. I deleted the version in iTunes and dragged it back into my library with Tones library open, but it goes only to my music file. I don't see a way to move it. ?????

Before you add the file back to iTunes, change the filename to something.m4r.

See the first response on page 1 of this thread. (just responding so others with similar issue may see how to do it)

Hi Chris, I tried following the steps you gave to make myself a ringtone in the newest version of iTunes, but iTunes won't let me convert the song I want to as ANY type of file out of iTunes. When I try to do this, I get a message that says "This song could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats."

Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to solve this problem? Thanks!
