Q: How do I reconnect computer camera?

I find i have no "connected camera" on my iMac that I can use for Skype video conferencing. I did use to be able to use the PhotoBooth feature on this machine, but have not done so for some time. What to do?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    For Skype:

-->Click HERE<--  Does item "B" (Turn video on/off) in the last topic on the page do it?

    For Photo Booth:

Double click your Mac's Photo Booth iCon.

The camera should automatically connect when the app launches.

If you do not have the Photo Booth iCon in your Dock,  you can use your Mac's

Finder > Go > Applications menu command to open the Applications folder.  (To add the iCon back for future Dock access, drag the app from the folder into your Dock.)

If NEITHER of the above work for you:

    •  If you have not already done so, restart Mac and

try again.  If the iSight still does not work, continue.

    • If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

suggestions including "reset" don't help, yours is most likely

a hardware problem that will require a professional fix.

Unless you have a current backup, make one now.

Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:

"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

    • If you want to try one more thing on your own first,

use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then

download and apply the latest Combo Update for

your OS.  Currently, the latest SL Combo is here:

        http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart

       that completes the Combo update.

Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
