what are those network connections to push.apple.com ?

Hi,

I"ve notices that when I am at work behind a http proxy, my OSX Lion is making a huge amout of HTTPS connections to *.push.apple.com. I am not logged in iCloud nor do I have Messages Beta installed.


What are those connections ? How can I disable the "applepushserviced" process ? Why is this service running ?

I can confirm this behaviour in OS X Lion when using it behind a proxy:


sudo lsof -i -P | grep applepush | wc -l
55


This seems to be causing the "applepushserviced" process to leak memory like crazy, constantly getting my startup disk out of space (due to swap space being used) if i don't regularly kill "applepushserviced" from Activity Monitor.

I also have this problem.

My workaround is to have another (proxyless) network connection open via wifi simultaneously.

Of course this somehow undermines the idea of being behind the proxy and the solution may not be available for other users of course.


Very annoying bug! It took a long time to find out about it. Since this used to eat up all the available memory in the course of a workday it slowed down my machine enormously!

it made my Lion upgrade a very frustrating experience so far.
