iOS 5.1 announced by Cook few moments ago.

Tim Cook just announced the long awaited iOS 5.1 will be available tonight. This is a great news to us with iPhone 4s poor battery life. Hopefully this will fix the draining problem.

I will post an update here as soon as I upgrade mine.

Good luck to anyone with the draining issue.

A word to the wise:

Do not try & update today, tonight or tomorrow. Every time Apple releases a new iOS, the whole world tries to update at the same time, servers get overloaded and a mess is created...there are more iOS devices out there than ever before...wait.

Update iTunes FIRST...make sure it's running properly.

Backup your phone AFTER you update iTunes...make sure the syncing/backup process goes without a hitch.

You can now update your phone.

My iPhone is downloading it as i type, I will inform of any noticeable improvements etc.

Unfortunately i was too late to heed wjosten's advice about waiting, i'd literally just pressed "agree" when i read his post haha. Oh well, i'm sure it'll all be fine. On iTunes however, when i search for update it says "The iPhone softare update sever could not be contacted" :/,

bit worrying but hey ho

Risked the OTA route and it has taken around 29 mins to update/install/reboot but the last 2-3% took around 12 mins but I guess that was due to the servers being hammered as you say. Everything appears fine so will see how it goes. I never really suffered with the battery issue but the fact I always have my iPhone lock itself after a few minutes of non usage could have helped.

Attempting the iPad 2 update now and been running for 34 minutes so far 😁
