I suspect you have files with the same names on another drive (a backup)?
Eject that drive, then launch FCP X.

You are right to suspect that first, however, there are no other drive connected to my computer when this error comes up, and I have triple checked that the event is not on the eternal.
Besides, reading the warning message, it says that it is looking at a file in the exact same directory as the file it claims is the duplicate..... hmm.... mystery.

I'll take a guess that the optimized or proxy media still exists someplace, or that the alias did not get erased.

I've tried finding where the files are it could be trying to link to. But all the clips and event files from the internal drive where it was previously stored are gone and gone. I really can't figure out what's going on. Even thoug h FCP says it can't open the "second file", it doesn't open any version of this event even if I hit "OK" and FCP opens.

Is it cross-referrenced to another event or project?
Currently Being ModeratedMar 12, 2012 11:05 AM (in response to Paul Cuciti)
As far as I know, you can't reference and event to another event, and no, it is not cross-referrenced to another project. Even if it was I don't know if it would effect the loading of the event itself, especially in the way the error window is describing. The mystery continues....?

Since I can't duplicate the problem, the only suggestion I have left is to rename the project.
But by now, you have probably solved it yourself. I'd like to hear what happened.

Hi Blake -
I'm having the exact same problem, did you figure out how to open the event? Paul, any help here?
Currently Being ModeratedDec 12, 2012 4:27 AM (in response to Blake Hodges)
It means identical named events or projects are on another mounted drive somewhere - either a regular backup or TimeMachine backup etc

Did you try renaming the Project? (one of the projects???)
