Mar 8, 2012 8:39 PM in response to Deni Kasamaby APARS,Just downgraded to 10.5.3 per the instructions provided, and it seems to have resolved the problem. Appreciate the sage advice.

Mar 8, 2012 11:05 PM in response to theguypostingacommentby scottmk,Thanks, "guy."
Problem solved, your instructions were perfect. I kept or restored my iTunes Library, preferences and cache from before the update to 10.6, in two user accounts, so I'm back where I was only a few hours ago.
One complaint with Apple's implementation of new software versions: they manage to replace almost all known versions across the web with the new, buggy version. Apple's own site doesn't have a download of the previous version available. This is unconscionable from a customer-support perspective.
The filejungle.com link said about the standalone 10.5.3 installer something like that "the file has been removed," but it still downloaded (in fact, it downloaded multiple copies).
I suppose I could've gone back to my TimeMachine backup of the application, but it's usually better to install it fresh when possible. I haven't seen a problem like this with Software Update since the early versions of Snow Leopard...

Mar 9, 2012 12:23 AM in response to Deni Kasamaby ElJefeMajor,There seems to be dozens commenting here with the same issue. I see exactly the same symptoms as greggmorris. However, I can't upgrade the device by avoiding clicking as once I do select upgrade, it shows a little dialogue box that just cycles and cycles with header "contacting the iPad software update server" I have seen that 20 times now, and it just keeps on cycling...
Lion 10.7.3, iTunes 10.6 just updated, and having issues with both iPhone and iPad - crashes when selected.

Mar 9, 2012 12:44 AM in response to Deni Kasamaby JAC3070,I am having the same problems installing on my MacBook Pro. 8 [Lion 10.7.3] March 2012 installation of latest itunes. I cannot get it to open. Have tried muliple downloads of itunes again - same result. It opens for about 3 seconds with a message option to restore windows - when I click on that it pulls up a mesaage about the problem with the option to reopen. When I try that it shuts down. In effect I cannot access my itunes Account.
Anyone find how to fix the problem?

So... goodbye new AppleTV! Apple has hobbled you badly with the new iTunes.
How so?
If iTunes will not work without crashing --- one cannot stream at all from iTunes to any version of ATV, or if iTunes remains unupgraded at 10.5 it will render the new 1080p ATV into the old 720p version. Either scenario... hobbled.

Mar 9, 2012 3:27 AM in response to Deni Kasamaby kenwilly,Same problem. iMac, 10.7.3, upgraded to iTunes 10.6 - iTunes can "see" my iOS devices (ancient iPhone 3G, iPad model Noah), see what's in Music, Movies, TV etc., display or play any commponent as usual. But click on the device name, as if to sync, and iTunes crashes immediately. Totally.
Following an earlier suggestion in this thread I actually downloaded and installed the upgrade to iPhoto '11 (9.2.2). I really couldn't see why this would help (I didn't hit the problem that others have reported of iTunes crashing when syncing photos, as I never got that far). However to my astonishmentn the tedious iPhoto upgrade worked! Everything now back to normal.
I was ready to go back to iTunes 10.5.3, but will now defer in the hope that it won't be necessary. But I can't help thinking that it might be a good idea!

Mar 9, 2012 3:53 AM in response to Deni Kasamaby RoarX,The iPhoto upgrade option has worked for some, but not for others. I'm not willing to spend $15 for something I don't use that might not work, nor do I want to reward Apple for a problem they created. Hopefully they will fix it soon.

Mar 9, 2012 4:05 AM in response to RoarXby nategold,For those who think they have 10.6 working, can you try to play a video full screen? See if you don't get an immediate crash the way I do. This is if it first is in a small window and then you click the double arrow to make it full screen. Kaboom.

Mar 9, 2012 4:22 AM in response to nategoldby kleachii,I was able to play movies in full and small screen without problems. The movie started in small screen, i hit the arrows as you suggested, and all was fine. My crashes were solved by upgrading iPhoto from 8.2.2. to the current version.

Mar 9, 2012 4:31 AM in response to kleachiiby nategold,Sorry kleachii going to a worse version of iPhoto is not an option. And I'm not sure it would work anyway, since it has not for some people.
