Q: iTunes 10.6 crashing after upgrade

Add me to the list of those who crashed.  I've tried everything short of reinstalling from Time Machine.  The only consistency that I can see is that when iTunes tries to sync photos with my iPhone or iPad the crash occurs.  If I turn off the wiFi connection so that iTunes doesn't have to deal with syncing with other peripherials it seems to operate normally.

I have the same problem.  The real issue is that the latest version of iTunes has a major bug, which Apple needs to address. So your just wasting your time trying to solve the issue. The only solution is to not upgrade, and if you already have, trash it and revert to the previous version of iTunes (Which I did and everything is working again!).

I am running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) and after upgrading to iTunes 10.6, it does nothing but crash upon startup. I have  tried all the usual techniques for fixing a crashing app on OS X and all failed.

My final resolution included restoring my 10.5.3 iTunes from TimeMachine backup. This involves first changing the permissions on the existing iTunes application so that you can delete it. Then doing the restore of the 10.5.3 version. I also restored my original iTunes files in the iTunes folder (iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, and iTunes Library.itl).

I am happily back to working condition on iTunes 10.5.3. 

Apple, you guys have a problem with 10.6. Very poor release.

Now, I am off to fix my daughters laptop which also has a crashing 10.6 iTunes on it. She is running Snow Leopard.

This release is a mess.  iTunes works fine so long as nothing talks to it, or it doesn't need to talk to anything.  Here is a list of things that will crash it on demand.

1.  Wake a linked Apple TV from sleep.

2.  Put a linked Apple TV to sleep

3.  Connect an iOS device to synchronize it via USB

4.  Say "Airplay" within hearing distance of iTunes.  Microphone not required.

5.  Stop playing back content from iTunes on the AppleTV.

Thank goodness for Logmein Ignition on the iPad.  Saves running up and down the stairs restarting iTunes.  For whatever reason, QA has missed the boat on this one.

I have the same problem.  I think I've fixed it using the same solution as Dick Swee used.

I dragged the iTunes Library from the Music folder to my desktop.  I then copied it back to the iTunes folder in Music.  That took ovrer an hour, but stopped the crashing. 

To recreate my playlists, I opened iTunes, went to File under the dropdown menu, then clicked Library, the Import Playlist (File>Library>Import Playlist).  For the playlist to import, I selected the iTunes folder I had placed on my desktop, and selected iTunes Music Library.xml.  It seems to have worked, but iTunes said it could not find several songs. 

My Music folder seems to have lost quite a bit of material.  It's now 267 GB, and used to be a bit over 300 GB.  Some of the artwork is missing, and some albums are mislabeled.

Safe mode doesnt work for me either.  I am using beaTunes and TuneUp on my Macbook Pro but that doesnt seem to matter.

Thanks for the solution but respectfully it's not a solution.  You have given up a lot of previously functional data and created more work for yourself and burned several hours you will never get back.  Apple needs to get their thumbs out and be more careful.

Any software company can have a bad release, but the fact that there are 13 pages of issues in three days with no comment from Apple means someone somewhere  needs a performance review.

Crashing started right after updating iTunes.

Which do you think would be a better course of action, restoring using Time Machine or a clone of my hard drive? 

1. Please change the view to any mode but grid. Does the problem still occur?

2. I myself got no problem at all with 10.6 at Mac OS X 10.7.3!

I think it got to do with new cover managment systems... Apple will bring an update soon!

To prevent my iTunes from crashing, if you go to view on your music library and select list, you can then scroll back and forth without iTunes crashing. This can also be done with the movies as well, which prevents iTunes from crashing and will allow you to sync your devices too without any hassle.

I have the Problem under Mac OS X 10.6.8 and it crashes only if i am in Grid View. I can change it to Cover Flow or List View and then i have no problem at all (until now at least). As soon as i go back to Grid View, it crashes immediately. That seems to be the only reason, as i have an iPad in the Wi-Fi and it doesnt seem to crash because of that.

The view doesnt matter for me.  Still crashing.

If your default setting had an icon art view that was 50% or larger it will crash just be selecting music or movies. It will not crash if prior to your update your ican size was set to below the 50% mmark on the slider.

When did 10.6 become aviliable?
