Mar 16, 2012 6:44 PM in response to Deni Kasamaby dai_vernon,I ended up using AppZapper to nuke all of the iTunes stuff, delete the library file and the XML database, reinstall iTunes 10.5.3 from the Apple website, and then manually re-adding all of my media. It's extremely slow and extremely lame.

Mar 16, 2012 8:27 PM in response to Deni Kasamaby Rowdy-Wear,Just adding my frustration to the list.
Updated iTunes to 10.6 (40) on MAC OS X 10.6.8.
The first thing I notice is that my TV Shows listings had duplicates. Some episodes were listed up to four times. This was not an issue prior to the upgrade.
Now whenever I try to open TV SHOWS, iTunes crashes.
I've tried multiple fixes listed throughout the discussion and nothing has worked.

Mar 17, 2012 6:17 AM in response to michaelfromsag harborby mwheelerk,I am very curious about a potential link to the version of iPhoto that is being run and the crashing of iTunes. I received a warning screen abou updating iphoto when I first upgraded to iTunes 10.6. I assume this was related to my having upgraded to Lion 10.7.3 so I did update to iPhoto 11. I have not experienced any iTunes crashes.
Is there anyone who has iTunes 10.6 and iPhoto 11 and does experience crashes of iTunes?

Mar 17, 2012 6:50 AM in response to theguypostingacommentby vickishome,Worked perfectly! Thank you for your clear instructions, much appreciated.
For those looking for iTunes version 10.5.3, Apple has it available for download. Go to this page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1426?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
At the bottom, look for:
Download iTunes 10.5.3 for OS X here: iTunes 10.5.3 for OS X
Download iTunes 10.5.3 for Windows 32 here: iTunes 10.5.3 for Windows
Hope this helps!

Mar 17, 2012 7:12 AM in response to mwheelerkby mwheelerk,iPhoto! I really think this is the issue. Reading through this thread, another thread on this site and two threads on other sites the 'fixes' for iTunes 10.6 without having to revert to an older version involve iPhoto.
1. Update to iPhoto 11
2. Delete iPhoto entirely
3. Create a new 'fake' library and associate iPhoto with that library and open the 'real' library

Mar 17, 2012 8:22 AM in response to rfsjrby Susan Woodrum,No more crashes during sync on iTunes 10.6 since upgrading to iPhoto 11 yesterday on my Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.3. I am VERY happy now and can use my New iPad without a hitch as well as my iPod Touch.

CRASH!

Mar 17, 2012 10:00 AM in response to casmetby BrianM_WPG,My iTunes library dates back to 2007 or so, and mine isn't crashing
(Mac Pro running 10.7.3, iTunes 10.6 I do have newest iPhoto though)
iTunes 10.6 solved some performance issues I was having with iTunes 10.5.3 and the wifi backup/sync with my iPhone & iPad. With iTunes 10.5.x it would get random spinning wheels and frequent errors about not being able to find the iPhone or iPad, with iTunes 10.6 the spinning wheels are gone, and I only very rarely get messages about not being able to find a device.

Mar 17, 2012 10:02 AM in response to Deni Kasamaby rocketshipjack@yahoo.com,I have been having the same problem as everyone else here. Here's what I did to make it work.
Hold down the option key before clicking the iTunes icon. A window comes up with two selections; "choose library" or "create library". I chose create library. it took awhile to create a new library from my exsisting music and movie library but when it was done iTunes did not crash anymore. I did however lose all my playlists. Apple needs to take responsiblility for this and correct the problem before more people try this out without knowing the problems that we are all having. My OS is 10.6.8 and the itunes i was trying to upgrade is 10.6
Hope this helps

Mar 17, 2012 11:43 AM in response to mwheelerkby Rowdy-Wear,Yes, I have iTunes 10.6 (40) and I installed iPhoto 11. iTunes crashes. I am pretty sure it started crashing after I purchased iPhoto 11.

I don't have iPhoto installed (and erase drive & new install of Lion) and iTunes 10.6 crashes.

Mar 17, 2012 5:21 PM in response to Joshua Weinbergby philosokat,Create a new empty iPhoto library and choose that as default library. Try again and see if iTunes allows your iPhone to sync. If it works, just import your photos to the new library and go on your merry life. I had the same problem and I solved it this way. I got this tip from James McDermott (?) in another discussion.

I have the same...10.6.8 and your solution worked......
Ok it's a bit of a faff redoing your library, and apps on your device(s), but it worked for me....
I'm now nervous about the recent upgrade to Safari, which i haven't upgraded to!
