It may depend on the case. The new iPad is slightly thicker and said to have a different rear beveling. An exact form silicon or hardshell case probably will not work, whereas a leather/fabric case may.

Thanks. This looks good. It also looks like iPad2 and iPad3 case are the same.
I go to the beach a lot, and I know like anyone it will be nice to sit on the beach using it to read. But we also don't like the sand getting everywhere, do you know if there will be an incase sleeve to fully protect it. Like the ones for the mac books, that zip up.
For a soft case like this, the 0.6 mm difference in width between the two should not make a difference (assuming all the ports, switches, and the camera are also in the same location).
i have this. not a "case" but its the best way to hold an iPad. (it does protect it when laying it face down. Kinda a weird invention, but I cant live with out it now.
Take a look at this case - originally designed for iPad2, but the "new" should fit well, also. http://www.cortizza.com/cork-ipad2-new-ipad-case/ . If you're not familiar with cork fabric, it soft, kind of like suede, but is also water and stain resistant. Also, cork is a sustainable, eco-friendly material.
Not all cases will fit.
I was using this PCtabletcase's guide to locate some iPad 3 cases and accessories out in the market. Lots of good cases on there. Hope this helps!
I bought this case which says it's made only for the new iPad, not like some cases that says "ipad 2 / ipad 3 / new ipad".
Leather cases are easy to fit. Now I do want to find a case to go with my smart cover. Maybe that will have to wait a few more days.
If you're talking about the SmartCover then it fits and works the same on both the iPad 2 and the New iPad. Do remember though that it is not a case, and actually provides essentially zero damage protection against anything but minor screen damage. You drop the iPad with it attached, or drop something heavy onto the iPad, it's still going to break.
I would use something cheap and simple for now to go with the smart cover, and wait for the smart cover matching color companion case to come out later.
I got my iPad 3 today and my iPad 2 case will not turn the iPad 3 off when closed. Not sure what has changed on the magnets.
If it's form fitting no. Smart covers (yes) no difference. Marware has a Microshell Folio case I use and had to buy a new one for the 3rd generation. The 2nd gen didn't fit due to fatter back on 3rd generation.
You say iPad 2 case, is this a 3rd party item or are you speaking of the Apple Smart cover?
It is a 3rd party case. Not the Apple case.
