Has anyone with an original iPad tried to install the new iOS? I've had problems with apps quitting on me after I installed 5.01 so I am nervous about. updating. Thanks

I wouls wait because Im having problems after trying to update my ipad
I wouldn't do it. Not only will there be update/restore errors, like there was with the iOS 5 update, but it will more than likely slow down your iPad. Think about it: the 5.1 was created and designed for a Quad-Core Processor chip which is something your iPad doesn't have. I would either wait a few days, or even a few weeks, before taking the leap. People have called today with error messages and bricked devices while trying to update.
I actually had good luck updating a 1st gen on 5.1. Initial thoughts are it seems 'snappier' in moving around. Remember this isn't going to duplicate the speed/usability of a device with more memory and a faster processor, but I found the whole experience 'better' with 5.1. I say give it a shot, I think Apple improved their code in 5.1 for all devices which helps increase the speed.

I had no problems at all with the update on my iPad and iPod Touch. I will have to give it some time before I can make any real assessment. I do agree with CFoote that my iPad 1 does seem to be a little "snappier" now. I hope that is a sign of good things to come.

And you know that how?

If your initial concern is valid, why does waiting help?
I updated my original iPad to iOS 5.1 about an hour ago - so far, it seems that it is definitely moving faster than it was after 5.01 - "snappier" is a good term. And so far, my Safari has not quit unexpectedly.
I have the original iPad w/32gb and 3G

I'm very happy with my ipad 1 after the latest update. My Ipad had been so sluggish and I was experiencing random crashes. Since i've updated things feel snappy like before the IOS 5 update. It almost makes me wish I wasn't upgrading to the new Ipad since I haven't been this happy with my original Ipad in several months.
No problems for me at all
Are the updated iOS 5.1 versions for Pages, Keynote and Numbers working on your updated original iPad? I do rely on those so that will be a must for me. My iPad is a 64G WiFi/3G which is not even close to full but still has recently become so sluggish with frequent random App crashes (Safari is a big offender) – I'd love to experience the "snappier" performance others have mentioned after the 5.1 update.
Pages is working just fine for me. I don't have the other apps.
Rikki88, I'm 99.99% sure Apple tested those applications with iOS 5.1 since they are Apples own applications, so I think you are perfectly safe to upgrade. Unfortunately I don't use the Pages, Keynote or Numbers otherwise I would try them myself.

Thanks CFoote & Arthur Shotwell;
I'm thrilled and now ready to click Update.
I use Pages and it is running fine with no issues that I have seen.
