Palatino Font Missing

Palatino Font Missing

Apparently Palatino is not an OS X native font...it is only present if you have OS 9 (Classic) installed.

In any case all the Word styles that used Palatino no longer use that font since I deleted OS 9 from my system.

Any ideas how I can recover Palatino for use in OS X?

I suggest you read the Disk Utility has lost the connection a slot or so above your post.

If you have any Mac OS 9 CD, insert it into your computer and copy the file Palatino from the folder System Folder/Fonts/ on the CD to the Library/Fonts/ folder on your hard disk. You do not need to install Classic to perform the file copy.

Is there any difference between the fonts on OS 9 and the fonts on OS X? Is there any reason to avoid using the old OS 9 fonts on OS X?

Mac OS X supports a wider variety of font formats, which is listed in this article. There is no reason not to use compatible Mac OS 9 fonts in Mac OS X.
