Search for the 5.1 ipsw for your device and just as long as you can download it my instructions should work.  That site may be  down or it may be getting a flood of traffic.

I just checked the link and it works.  It is probably having intermittent heavy traffic but there are a lot of places to get the 5.1 ipsw (or just hang in there and you should be able to get in soon).

I am going to wait until Apple guides me through this issue. It works for a majority of people, but a small percentage it is not working. Again, ATV, MBP, and my iPad and iPhone are not able to upload iOS 5.1. 1 Infinite Loop is trying to work this out today. We just have to be patient.

    Hi,

I have the same error message.

Used different Internet networks with same error.

I want to do the OTA upgrade cuz am away in a trip and my Mac is not near by.

    Any more ideas?

I have been having the same issue since the morning. None of the ways that are discussed here helped me. I have been getting an error message saying that it couldnt find the Apple update server, both from my mac, ipad and my iphone. Maybe it is because of Turkey's connection. But it is pretty odd.

Call in to Apple. I did and if enough people do it they will do something about it.

    Well...

Unfortunately, international call prices are really high between Tr and US. I will try to e-mail them and see what happens.

I am in Alaska and my iPad 2 tells me my software is up to date iOS5.0.1.  Seems to me I have a problem here.  Maybe the update fraze on it's way up here to the frozen tundra.  Anybody have a solution?

  • rhg2305 Level 1 (0 points)

I just tried my iPhone and another iPad and same thing.  The guy down the hall was able to download and install iOS 5.1.  Maybe if I move to his office.  Worth a try.

Nope did not work still shows I am up to date with 5.0.1

Spent an hour on the phone with Apple Technical Support this morning.  They had me jump threw a hundred hoops but nothing worked.  I don't think at that time they had any idea that the problem was at Apple, rather than with me.  I was finally told to wait a few days and I should be able to download 5.1 on both iPhones.

I agree that Apple is falling apart.  I can't even do computer backups anymore.  Something do do with a "trial limit of 100MB exceeded".  I am simply trying to backup on my own external hard drive.  Why are they making things so complicated?

I'm really frustrated at this point and will probably wait another week.  All of our systems are Apple so they should all be able to work togrther to get the job done.

Someone suggested that this maybe related to jailbreaking your phone .. are you all guys using JB?

  • Dan FO Level 1 (0 points)

    Not a phone, it's a 32GB Gen4 iPod Touch.

If you have tried all of the methods listed above, could you tell me what error message you got when you tried the instructions I wrote up at the trialsandtribstech.blogspot.com link?

It worked for me because it bypasses the Apple servers and downloads iOS 5.1 from an alternate source... However, if it is not working for other people, I may be able to find out why and fix my tutorial.

I found a solution that worked for me and it should work for most people, but ideally I want to find a solution for everybody.
