Wondering why my log in screen where i choose which user, had gone from the linen twxture to a flat grey version where the apple logo move animated and drops....
i liked the previous screen more... wondering how to go back to it.

But this doesn't sound like expected behavior. As long as you have Lion you should still have the gray texture screen in the back.
well, i can't currently take a picture, since my phone camera is dead. and since i haven't log in yet, i can't screen capture.
essentially the screen i'm talking about is the one refer in this article, the bottom one. I have seen the top one, until recent. I did a PRam reset a while back, would that have affected the log in screen?

Got it. But yeah, PRAM could definetly do that. Reset Screen rosolution +more. Have you tried Safe Boot?
I'm gonna try that. Also i notice that the system is seen as 1.7.2 on the console, although i had already updated to Lion 1.7.3 [which shows right on the apple menu About this mac]??
Do you have FileVault encryption enabled? For whatever reason, when FileVault is enabled, your login at boot will be on a plain grey version of the login screen. If you later access the login window via Fast User Switching, you'll see the textured version.
Interesting. Maybe there was an issue upgrading to the 10.7.3. Go redownload and install the Mac OS X 10.7.3 update combo from the support page.
i do, but that didn't seem to be the issue. re-installing 10.7.3 fix the problem. I just had to do it from the file and not via system updater.
Thanks, WeepOzymandias. This helped. I had this issue and reinstalling the combo updater didn't help. In my case the plain grey background was due to FileVault being enabled. I've tested and confirmed this by disabling / enabling FileVault.
Same issue on my iMac.
actually this seemed to have been the real fix, after re-installing, i only was able to see the right log in once, after restarting, it came back to the gray screen, and de-activating firevault finally fix it for good.
