I have an unlimited data plan on my iPad 2 that I transferred over from my original iPad. Can I use that same data plan on the newest iPad if I upgrade?

Sure, just swap SIM cards between the iPads.

That did not work when going from the iPad 1 to the iPad 2.
The SIM slots between iPad2 and iPad3 look the same.
Also this Apple KB article. iPad Wi-Fi + 3G: Transferring your cellular data plan to a new iPad
Even though the KB article talks about just the iPad2, it should work for the iPad3 too.
It turned out it was a bit more complicated than that. And AT&T has not said if the unlimited plan will be transferable to the new iPad.
I have the 2 GB plan on my iPad2. The 2 GB plan is no longer being offered. I'm getting the iPad3. I'll do the SIM swap and let you know.
I have the unlimited plan and I've already ordered my new iPad. I'll let you know if they let me keep it. The above article is in regard to swapping fixed plans, since the unlimited plan was no longer offered by the time the iPad 2 came out it took intervention by AT&T to carry over the unlimited plan.

Thanks. I made the swap with my sim between the original and the iPad2 without any problems, and between iPhones as I've upgraded. I really don't want to lose my unlimited plan.
I called AT&T and spoke to a rep who told me...after putting me on hold for a few mins to make sure, that my grandfathered Unlimited Data on my iPad 2 would in fact transfer to the new iPad.
She said I would need to call them to make sure they do it.
We shall see...I hope she's right.

An update: I swapped out the SIM cards between my iPad2 and the iPad 4G and everything is working fine for my new iPad. I am composing and sending this message using my new iPad on the AT&T 4G network.
As with all electronic cards, don't touch the gold contacts of the SIM cards.
