a) this kind of question would be best asked in the iPhone conference.


b) you should backup up your iPhone to your Mac or PC via iTunes before you attempt an update (I'm assuming you have been sync'ing your iPhone with your Mac or PC all along). The update will then wipe your iPhone, install the new software, then do a restore from your most recent backup.


But since I do NOT have an iPhone, and just about everyone in the iPhone conference does have an iPhone, you might get a better answer from someone that has actually done what you want to do in the iPhone conference.


Also I'm not sure about iPhones that are backed up to iCloud. I do not do that, so if that is how you are doing your backups, someone else will need to answer that.


However, it is never Apple's desire to delete your stuff. But in the real world, "Murphy's Law" is a strong force of nature :-)
