New iPad (3rd gen) fit in iPad 2 case?

Hi I have pre-ordered the new ipad and I'm ordering screen protectors/cases for it so when it arrives on Friday it will be fully protected but I'm not sure if the new ipad will fit in the Belkin snap shield. Does any official people know?

I thought i'd do the same thing, turns out this new ipad is thicker than the iPad 2, so yeh i cancelled my order, have a look in the comparison between iPad 2 and the New iPad, and see the difference in size 😟 so annoyed i hope i get a refund for my case. But the screen proctectors should all fit, because the smart covers are for both gens now 🙂

Odd that they (Invellop) say the case fits both the iPad 2 and the new iPad. Other major legitimate case manufacturers are saying their iPad 2 cases are not compatible with the new iPad.

Belkin has a bunch for the new iPad: http://www.targus.com/us/section.aspx?buckettypeID=194&dBucketId=2978&navlevel1= products#tab-2978

Personally, I don't care for any of the Belkin ones -- there's one that's a 'maybe', however, it has a stylus holder built into the back -- yuck.

I think I'll just use a slide in one (griffin's jumper) till I find an alternative to snapshield. And ya screen protector and smart covers seems to work so they are ordered already 🙂

@benjitek those you linked are not what im searching for, I am looking for a hard back cover that is compatible with the smart cover. For the ipad2 I have the snapshield and it worked perfect for me, hence the reason I want to get it again.

I ordered the new iPad yesterday as well and wanted to buy a case like an Otterbox, something that can withstand a 3 year old wild child. I asked Apple directly if the iPad 2 cases would work on the new iPad, no they won't. Biggest thing was the camera is bigger on the new iPad than the iPad 2. So we will have to be patient, pray for no accidents or buy a flimsy case from Apple until the other guys come out with tough cases.

The best case manufacturers will wait to get their hands on a newPad and customize it - particularly for the hard cases. Very possible a soft case might work on both models, but fit would not be perfect. I plan on getting a fairly low end iPad2 case (have a spare one I can access) until I find a nice one on which I'm willing to splurge.

Griffin says some of their cases will fit. And although skeptical, I believe them and expect a refund if it doesn't work. Afterall, its only .6mm of a difference, thats hardly anything!

Personally, I like the intellicase.

Case-mate just released some covers for the new iPad. It has a barely there snap on case for the back that works with the smart cover. Personally, that is what I am looking for, but I want a clear back, so you can still see the back of the iPad. This barely there case comes in 3 colors, but it is not clear/see through, which is what I am looking for. Hopefully this can help you.

I did some searching yesterday and found that a number of the leading manufacturers are already selling "new" iPad cases... I'm a little skeptical of how well the hard factor cases will work, but plan on ordering the Otterbox Defenderand returning it if the fit is not right. The difference is only 0.6 mm, so minor, but if the curving of the back is different then some of these hard cases may not work.
