iPhone 4 - Suddenly can't connect to the internet anymore

I can no longer connect to the internet on my iPhone 4, using 3G or normal data roaming. The 3G icon is there but everything says it can't connect to the internet. If I turn off 3G it still doesn't work.


I am with Orange (UK) and I don't have the option to change my APN in the settings menu. I think I am on iOS 4.x


Everything was working fine an hour ago but the WiFi at work got reset and I could no longer automatically connect to it. So I told the phone to forget the WiFi network and now the 3G or anything doesn't work at all even though it says it's on.

I'm having the exact same issue. I'm got the iPhone 4S on Orange and it has no connectivity to any 3G/data, no internet/apps work unless over WiFi.


This is all post iOS 5.1 update. Have restarted and turned all data/3G/roaming off and on again to no avail.


Not sure why this would effect us both if you're on iOS 4.x and I'm on 5.1, maybe an issue with Orange?

Sounds like you're in iOS 5, if you have iMessage, notificiations that you pull down from the top of the screen etc then you're on iOS 5. It might be worth upgrading to iOS 5.1 to see if it fixes the issue for you.


I upgraded last night and the issue started straight away I guess, but only figured out this morning when I left my house and WiFi for work. Seems strange it effects us both and the only constant variable is we're both on Orange.


Maybe they have a connectivity issue with their towers?

I too have just upgraded to iOS 5.1 from 5.01 and now cannot connect to 3G. I have full 3G signal but no matter what I do I cannot get it too connect. Every time I try and open the App Store I get the "Could not activate cellular data network". Have tried restarting with no luck. I am also on the Orange UK network in the London area; had no issues this morning in the same area.

I guess this issue is related to IOS as I am experiencing your same problem. Yesterday evening data connection was working fine. This morning after the download of the latest version everything seemed to be fine at home (I was connected to my WI FI) and now at work, although the 3G signal appears on my screen I am unable to connect to the internet....I am in Belgium and using a local provider...

Hi guys,


I encountered the same issue after I made the update to iOS 5.1 on my Iphone 4S, the problem was that after the update the internet settings were changed so I advice to make the settings again: Settings->General->Network->Cellular Data Network and make those settings again.


I'm on Vodafone RO prepay and for example at APN I have live.pre.vodafone.com and after the update the "pre" was dissapeared

IMPORTANT: After you make the changes reboot your phone

I called and eventually got someone who knew what he was talking about. I knew it wasn't a generic Orange 3G / data problem as I'm typing this on my Orange iPad!

It turns out is is a voice network data APN issue. Must be major and they have no idea of when it will be fixed.

**** shame you can't edit APN info on Orange iPhones, as I could just change it to the iPad's!
