I am also having problem update my iPhone 3GS from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.1: "Contacting the iPhone software update server..." this message just never succeeds. I am based in the UK.

I also tried last evening and again this afternnoon with no success. I also got prompted to download a number of Apple Apps (keynotes, pages, numbers) which are now not being updated as they are the wrong version.

Sorry this is not a solution but we need this problem sorted out quickly

Hi,

I'm having the same problems with "network connection cannot be established" when trying to update my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 to iOS 5.1

I took my phone to a friends house and used thier wireless connection (installing the update from the phone) and it installed ok, I'm going to take my iPad to their house tomorrow and see if I can update that as well.

As far as I am aware my internet connection is working perfectly, so I have no idea why it won't download for me using my connection.
