I had two POP accounts on Mail and had to delete them as their passwords were always rejected (but worked using a different email client).
Now I keep getting asked for the POP password, even when I've delted the accounts.
I reset the sync history, but still no joy.
Ideas?

Delete the passwords in Keychain.
Which ones? There's @ symbols passwords and a 'dmg' disk image password.

I don't want to delete an important password by accident.
Aren't you seeing your email pwords there? Kind is "Internet passwords." Look in the Login Keychain>Passwords.
Yes, I can see them, but I also run my POP email on Thunderbird (as Mail has given me plenty problems with it).
I don't want to delete my Thunderbird settings and have to start my preferences, folders etc from scratch.
Ok. I finally got sick of the ongoing Mail issue and deleted all passwords from Keychain but the DMG system one in the list.
Didn't work.
Mail is still asking for passwords to accounts I've deleted in it.

Anyone, I'd really appreciate help on this, as it's been ongoing for ages and it is – frankly – a pain in the fundament to have an unwanted app pop up every few minutes demanding my attention.
Have you tried running Keychain FirstAid? Maybe do a Keychain reset.
Thanks. I repaired my Keychain to no efffect.
If I reset Keychain, will I have to re-enter all my passwords? I doubt I can remember them.
Take some screenshots or write them down with the pwords visible before resetting.
Hm. I don't kow about that. There's over 280 items in Keychain.
Surely there's a more elegant solution?
