I am a UK resident. Presently I cannot watch BBC iPlayer on my TV as the distance from the TV to the router is too great to make an ethernet connection. Couls I use Apple TV to make this connection wirelessly and then stream from IPlayer

Thanks. Not the answer I hoped for but you have saved me £99. It strikes me that it will be a long time before Apple TV is a mainstream product in UK
I agree. I'm a Yank, who wishes I could get the iplayer on my Mac w/o using a proxy.
If you have an iPod Touch, iPhone or and iPad I think you can by installing the free iPlayer App and using AirPlay.
When you get Mountain Lion you will be able to use the Mac iPlayer too
