I recently picked up a 50 pack of Memorex DVD+Rs, 16x max burn and 4.7gb capacity.

I am happy to report that not only have I had no coasters thus far (have burning ~10 discs) but they are also burning at the extremely efficient 8x DVD-burn speed (unlike the last spindle of Fujifilm discs which not only burned at a max of 2x but also did not pass verification practically 100% of the time).

So - I would definately recommend picking up a spindle... Futureshop had a great sale of 50 discs for $18 (canadian)... I only wish I had bought more than one spindle!

Matt.

What program where you using when you burned them?
I ask because I was trying to burn some data files and it only wrote at 2x, while
using Toast 7.0.2 and I was using Memorex DVD-R 16x discs.

It seems that this thread has not garnered the attention that I believe that it deserves so I'll post again to bump it up and hope that we can get some more input.

I tend to buy whatever is on sale at Staples, Office Depot, etc. Usually Maxell (which in general I only have - had in my older G4 PowerMac MDD with two Pioneer 106's a failure rate of about 2 per 50 pack spindle) or Sonys which I usually only had about 1 in 150 fail. Not bad.

However, I hear a LOT about Verbatim and, as I'll have a LaCie 16x burner with Lightscribe later today AND Verbatim seems to have a pretty good price on Double Layer Lightscribe compatible DVDs, I'll likely be keeping a lookout for Verbatim. I paid $23 for a 3-pack (with jewel cases) for +R DL Verbatim DVDs but just found them a moment ago - same package - for $10 at B&H photo (and they might be less expensive elsewhere).

So... from what I've heard (but not, yet, what I've experienced) Verbatim seems to be the media of choice for many people (someone here said that Verbatim were the Apple branded OEM?) and, if all goes well with them, I'll likely make the switch. I found 'close to' Staples/Office Depot "sale" pricing at several reputable vendors on a Google search.

But I would love to hear input from others... I had such tremendous luck with those Pioneer drives that I'm a bit wary of the MATSHITA in MY (but - apparently - not ALL) Intel iMac but time will tell... I've had no problems in the month I've had the machine.

So - what's your favorite DVD media (CD media is so cheap now that I simply buy name brands and let it go at that as I don't burn many CDs any longer).

Same here. I buy 50 and 100pak Staples DVDR brand and they work fine on my iMac DC. Every once in a while I'll get a dud. Sony, otoh, gives me 4 or so duds out of 50

I read your earlier post about obtain the LaCie w/Lightscribe. I have the LaCie Slim with Lightscribe but cannot get it to burn a DVD successfully. Gets down to the last 90 seconds or so then shuts off while Toast 7.0.2 keeps running (and spinning). I'd be very interested in your success or failure with the non-Slim LaCie. I have not used the Lightscribe feature and cannot comment on it.

But please come back and post your results and comments on the new LaCie you're receiving.

I thought I would have the LaCie by now... when I went to my dealer to get it the ONE that they had in stock had been sold an hour before I came in. She ordered another for me but it still hasn't arrived. Last night I was going to use some Amazon gift cards and get it from them... but they're out of stock until the 20th.

But I have this msg flagged and will let you know how it works when it arrives.
