Zip Archives won't unarchive...

I found a fix, using one of two utilities (one free, one 3.99) from the App Store.

The Unarchiver:

Hey, also I know it is while since your issue, but I've definitely run into this multiple times for all files. I seemed to also find the quickest shortcut to be:

Open the Terminal utility and after it opens type: unzip (and hit spacebar) , then just drag the file right into Terminal, press Enter and boom. file is unzipped! Hope this also helps for everyone as I have not had any major issues or if it wasn't a similar issue sorry!

THANKS ts232 (and originator)- Unarchiver worked with 10.7 when all others failed (and it's free).

THANK YOU!!! Was having the same problem with a corrupted zip, and the Unarchiver did the trick! Totally saved me from having to re-create the wheel... whew... 🙂

I ran into this yesterday when the Zip file was missing two bytes at the end (both 0x0). This was due to a poor Base64 Decode function. Either way, when the two bytes were restored, the file opened perfectly. I realize this is probably a 1%, but thought I would let everyone know not to rule out an issues with the file itself.

That is really bad. I have attempted to recover data from corrupt zip files in the past with zero percent success rate. It appears once zip files get corrupted that chances of recovering anything is very remote.

Exactly Siddharth0905. It's great that I can use The Unarchiver, but when I send a link to a zip file to a client and they can't open it right away, they are not happy. Explaining to them that they need to download some other program because the default Apple one doesn't work is not an option. Is there any way to force a zip file to work universally?

Having the same problem here, were you able to find any solution? I had zipped up several large projects with 10.7, and now find that with 10.8 I am unable to unzip them. Total disaster!

Seems to be an issue related to permissions. Unarchiver appears to brute-force or override this. At any rate, thanks for the solution, ts232; it saved my bacon.
