I am setting up 44 ipads to be shared in k-5 classrooms.
I would like to prevent students from enabling passcodes on the ipads.
However, I dont see a way to restrict this with iPAD Configurator.
Anyone have any thoughts or solutions?
Wish I had better news..to my knowledge, there is no way to do this using IPCU.
Apple Configurator can’t prevent users from setting passcodes, but if you are using Supervised devices, it will automatically remove any passcode set on a device when it is reconnected to Apple Configurator.
I've setup a device in Apple Configurator and supervised it, put a passcode on it, reconnected it and it fails to install the profile. It won't clear the passcode.
Same here, the password won't clear. I was successful setting up restrictions so they can't delete apps, etc, but when I put a passcode on the device the profile install fails.
The only way I could clear it was to unsupervise then supervise again and restore the backup I created when I configured my first "master" ipad.
cdespinosa are we missing something in the configurator setup? I can't get it to install a profile if a user puts a password on the device.
It does not remove the passcode for me for supervised devices. Any idea how to get that to work?
Nope, Apple Configurator is useless. You need Profile Manager.
You can create and download an Enrollment Profile in the Profile Manager web interface then import it into Apple Configurator. Apple Configurator can then enrol the device connected so it can be managed and allow you to push out settings to devices and clear passcodes over the WiFi.
It wasn't fun to setup.
It should remove passcodes on refresh, do you have the Apple Configurator preferneces set to "Automatically Refresh"? As well as remove profiles and apps configurator did not install?
