Mar 8, 2012 12:54 PM in response to Macadododoby AnaMusic,iPad Charging
"The fastest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter.
iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter.
When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.
Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain."

Mar 8, 2012 12:55 PM in response to Macadododoby Macadododo,Sorry there were a couple of typos there.
Should have read No previous problems on charging
And also ale should have read able - funny that... ale never fixes the problem although a good wine can help make you feel better.

Mar 8, 2012 1:03 PM in response to AnaMusicby Macadododo,Wow that was quick - thanks Ana
I've had my iPad2 for around 16 months now and have all the right chargers Etc (5 of them in total - they can't all be malfunctioning together) - I've been a Mac user for 10+ years and had similar problems with my MacBook Pro after upgrading OS s/w.... All of a sudden I started having to replace hardware components.
I think this is something linked to my s/w upgrade.

You could always re-download Update If you think it may have been corrupted...
There was a lot of traffic on the servers...

Mar 8, 2012 1:58 PM in response to Macadododoby padaron,I am seeing the same thing on my iPad 2 with the iOS 5.1 update. In addition, I'm seeing faster than normal battery drain as well. Faster battery drain, slower battery charge is not a good combination at all.
I don't have any concrete data, but I plugged in my iPad this morning around 6:00 AM at 20% power. It's now 4:00 PM and it's only reading 73%. With iOS 5.0, it charged that same amount in minutes, not hours.

Mar 20, 2012 8:24 PM in response to Macadododoby Brian Greenstone,Same here. Both my iPad 2 and new iPad 3 take over 24 hours to recharge from a 20% state to full. My iPad 2 did not have this problem prior to 5.1

Apr 4, 2012 6:32 AM in response to Macadododoby O'Ren,I have the same issue, just upgraded my ipad 1 to 5.1. Now the battery is having the hardest time taking off from the 2% it's been stuck at for more than 24h.
I noticed that when the iPad is plugged to the wall charger, the battery icon does not show the lightning bolt icon but the plug icon, is it the case for everyone as well ?
Tried leaving the ipad to charge on 2 different wall chargers (apple ones, work great on iPhones on different firmware versions) but the charging is so slow, I barely get above 5%. never had this problem with this iPad on previous firmware versions.
Restored the iPad, thinking maybe something went wrong with the firmware download on the Apple servers. No improvement.
The iOS 5.1 does not taste good at all...

Apr 5, 2012 1:04 PM in response to Macadododoby KRDHarris,I have the same propblem on my iPad 2; recharging was fine before, but now it is really slow, unlike the discharge rate… It was charging all night on its own charger, and it was only at 84% this morning.I finally googled today and found this thread. Has anyone asked Apple about this problem yet? Have they acknowledged that it is a software problem?

Apr 5, 2012 1:26 PM in response to KRDHarrisby KRDHarris,I just looked at the contents list for iOS 5.1, and it includes: "Addresses bugs affecting battery life."
This confirms that changes were made in the area of battery management, but how could Apple make it worse and not detect this during their testing? (Presumably, they ran a test specifically for these battery management changes, and also ran their standard release regression test which I would expect to include at least a minimal battery management test.)

I have not noticed any dramatic change in battery charge/discharge on new iPad or iPad 2 with iOS 5.1. Have 8 ipad2 for special meetings and they charge rapidly, personal new iPad has great battery life.

Apr 8, 2012 7:34 PM in response to KRDHarrisby KRDHarris,Further to my prior posts, I read that someone had solved their iPad battery management problems by restoring their iPad to factory settings, and then restoring from backup; they felt that the original 5.1 installation had completed but had been corrupted in some way that was affecting battery management.
I therefore tried restoring my iPad 2, and battery management is also restored to what it was before!
I have no idea what the actual problem was, or if the hypothesis of slightly corrupted 5.1 installations has any merit, but if anyone else has run out of ideas, it might be worth trying a restore.

Apr 9, 2012 5:28 AM in response to Macadododoby Kego2926,according to other 3rd party sites, in the devoloping of the ios 5.1 they have stuffed up the mathimatical formula for calculating the carge/discharge in each battery cell, and therefore fails to display accurately how much charge is acually in the battery. not 100% sure that this is right, but helps explain the problem

Jun 12, 2012 6:02 PM in response to Macadododoby Boltcc,I was having the same problem, Taking forever to charge..I did some more searching and found it could have been the usb cable. I was using the original Apple iPad wall charger, but my USB cord had failed soon after I got it. I put a replacement 3ft cord on it. Today I changed the cord to make sure that wasn't the problem and IT WAS
Charged 100% in about 2 hrs
