App Store reports OS X Lion not installed

Hi,

I have installed OS X Lion (upgrade from Snow Leopard via the App Store) a long time ago (and made all the updates later). Now the App Store has started to list Lion as not installed. There is an option to download it and install (but there is no need of course).

Any idea? Does the App store not detect the current version?

I am using 10.7.3, but here I am showing 10.6.7 since this was the original OS on my laptop (in my profile there is no OS higher than 10.6.7 to select).

Obviously there is no need to do any upgrade. Is it possible that the App Store thinks that I am still on 10.6.7? How can I change this?

Not obvious to me. It should allow Lion to DL.

I am having the same trouble. It now means I am not getting the latest update. There was an update in the last couple days for iTunes, Garageband, the OS as well as a couple others. I got it and installed on my other 2010 macbook, but am only getting the iTunes update listed on the 2007. both have lion installed, but somehow the 2007 is not registering with apple correctly. same in the app store. It shows lion ready to install...

Any help from apple or the community would be appreciated.

Hmm, is there a way to raise it as a ticket with Apple? I'm new on this forum and not sure how I can raise it. I'm just worried that when it comes time to upgrade to Mountain Lion then maybe the installation will mess up as it might think I'm on SL and follow some different installation routines and mess things up. I guess SW update knows I'm on Lion, but if the MAS thinks I'm on SL then all upgrades are done through the app store in Mountain Lion....perhaps I'll just buy a new retina display Macbook Pro and revert this one back to SL.

I'm also wondering what you are supposed to do when you sell a Mac - if you've purcahsed Lion and then wipe it and reinstall, what about the license tied to you? I guess that's a question for another part of this forum :-)

For the apps installed on the 2007 (iTunes, Garageband, etc.) did you buy and install from the App Store? Or for instance were they already included on the computer (shipped with an OS pre-Lion) when you bought it?

Although the version numbers may be the same, App Store apps and "standard" apps (as I'll call them) installed from discs are different. You cannot update say Garageband purchaed from the App Store with updaters for the "standard" version found via Software Update or the standalone downloadabe updaters. Software Update in fact won't show any available update; the standalone updaters will tell you can't update that version purchased from the App Store.

Alternatively if Garageband came with your computer (shipped with an OS pre-Lion), was installed from the install discs, or was installed from an old iLife disk (a standard version), they don't register with the App Store. They're not the same thing for App Store. The App Store won't show any updates for these standard versions. It will either offer the opportunity to buy it or to install it if you purchased it already (on another Mac for instance).

So have you tried Software Update to see whether the updates say for Garageband and iTune appear that way?

It's a bit confusioning and can be a bit of pain. My 2011 Mini came with Lion and iLife apps; to install and update those I have to go through the App Store. My MBP came with Snow Leopard, and iLife apps are standard versions -- they're on the DVDs; with these I update via Software Update or download manually the updaters.

The screen for Purchased apps is a little misleading in this case. If you've purchased Lion, it shows up, even after you've installed the OS. This is because it's the entry for the Lion Installer, which sits in my apps folder, not the OS software itself.

I noticed that on my page it was constantly nagging me to update the Lion Installer, even after I had applied the combo updater from the support site. This was because even though I was running 10.7.3, the installer I still had in my apps folder was for 10.7.1.

I've removed the Lion Installer from my list of purchased apps. If I need it again, then I can get it back by clicking Buy on the app page.
