iPhone 4 loose charger connection?

As my iphone 4 gets older, the charging port connection seems to get looser and looser to the point where I now have to ever so gently make sure that the cord is in just right and then not move the phone at all. Is this normal, and / or is it something I can get fixed at the apple store relatively cheaply? I would like to not have to buy a new phone because of this...

If you still have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage, make Genius appointment and take to Apple for resolution of this problem. If you do not have Coverage, try different USB cables to find one that still makes good connection with your iPhone. I like using an old Apple Cable that has the lock pins in place, that must be pushed to release the cable. Sometimes a brand new cable will make the best connection with an iPhone, sometimes a random old one.

Also check that no lint or debris are in your iPhone charging port. Use a clean dry toothbrush and carefully clean that port.
