I pre-ordered a new Apple iPad (3rd generation) 64 GB Wifi+4G LTE yesterday on March 6, 2012. The conformation email I received from Apple said that it would be delivered on March 16, 2012. Is this the true date that my new iPad will be delivered, or is this just the date that it will ship from Apple? Does anyone have any insight on this delivery date question?

Why would Apple say that's the day it would be delivered if it was the day that it was being shipped? If Apple says that's the day it will be delivered, then, barring some sort of disaster, then that's the day it should be delivered. However, the universe is frequently unpredictable.
I was asking the question because the new iPad 3rd generation is not available for sale until March 16, 2012. The delivery date message on the conformation screen wasn't clear as to when it would be delivered, basically stating the delivery estimate. Not that it's a huge concern, it's that I've never pre-ordered anything from Apple before, and since the product itself won't be available to purchase on the market until March 16, I was simply inquiring as to the exact delivery date being the same date the product being available for sale. I know when I ordered my iPad 2 online on the Apple store, it took about 8 business days from the shipping conformation email I received, and the delivery of the iPad 2. Has anyone else pre-ordered the new iPad 3rd generation online from the Apple store, and have an estimated delivery date of March 16, 2012?
Yeah it will be delivered on March the 16th. There was no reason for that person to be so rude...lol I was wondering the same thing 🙂 So it isn't a dumb question.
You never know for sure, but when I preordered my pad one and pad2, both were delivered on release day, as advised in the e mail. They ship the, a couple of days early, at least for us customers. I talked to the ups guy. He told me they had them for a couple of days, and help them until the scheduled delivery date, as instructed by apple.
There is some charm to having a guy walk up to your house and hand it to you while the rest of the world are camped out in line at the store. Note, keep looking for e mails with a sign for delivery paper in case you are not home.

Yes, I preordered Weds around 5p ET and received 3/16 as the delivery date on my order confirmation. I understand what you're saying, though. Before putting in the shipping zip code, the online order process does lead you to believe that the delivery date--notship date--is the release date of March 16th. However, there is fine print before you hit "submit order" that states delivery can be up to five days "after the availability of the item", so I see what you mean. I've never pre-ordered from Apple either; I bought all previous iDevices after their release dates. However, I've heard plenty of anecdotal evidence that suggests those who (pre)order among the first usually get the item on the release day. It was like that with the iPhone 4S and the previous iPad(2) so I'm willing to bet this won't be any different.

I have done a few per orders with apple and in my area (Metro NYC) they always delivered on the date specified. The deliver service gets them early and must wait until the release date to deliver them. It save the wait in line at a store on the release date.
some said, it will be delivered 16th or eamrlier so, keep your fingers close and see your luck.
Agree with all said above, and add my "proof" -
It is promised next Friday, but is in Nashville (450 miles from me) and is shipping overnight ( ! ). That is explained by the Details section that says it has been requested for future delivery which I take to mean even though it is coming to my local center early they are to hold it for later delivery, i.e. Friday the 16th.
I have another question, when will be be able to pre-order an Ipad 3 if you live in a country where it is release the 23rd of March ?
Just got the "Its shiped"! if it was just a computer log. Which usualy means Indirect. It list Ontario CA is about 80~90 miles up the coast. And the central FedEx local hub for me is about 25 minuts driving time. Need the next leg but got fingers crosses it in my area.
Feel that a Friday delivery will be the norm for the release. No problem. Just get to go crazy wating untill Friday! ^_^
Getting nervous 😉, I had the same message that I would have my new IPad(preorder) delivered on march 16 2012. I checked today and it said preparing shippment! I hope it is still a true delivery date!! I ordered mine as well on March 7th. took two hours to have my order go through on apple.com
