I doubt Migration Assistant will work with the Air, since 10.4 Mac would need to be running a compatible version of MA, which there isn't.

Only way to get the info from 10.4.x is to have that old Mac in Target Mode & use Firewire which the Air does not have.

You need an interim method or Mac, can the Mac store help you?

Use an external USB hard drive. Clone your G4 to the USB drive & then connect the drive to your new Mac.
