Sony HDR-HC1 or HVR-A1???

I've found two great deals on the Sony HDR-HC1 and the HVR-A1, but am not sure which one to get. I want to record my graduation in high def. so I really want one of these two cameras. The HC1 I've found and read to be the more consumer of the two, while the A1 is the more professional one. The deal I found was that the A1 would cost about 2x as much as the HC1, but still about half the MSRP of the unit. I have the money for both, but would obviously like to save the money if I could. The main features I'm looking at with the A1 that would make me spend the extra money are the XLR audio inputs and the special cinematic mode and cineframe. Does anyone know whether or not the audio module on the A1 can be removed, like for transportation and does anyone have any specific details on the cine stuff? The HC1 meets the requirements I have, but when I use this in the future, I may want a cinema look, and yes i know that I could attempt to recreate it in FCP, but it's not worth the hassle, just yet at least. I also noticed that the A1 can do DVCAM, but I know VERY little about DVCAM except that it sounds like something I'd want. I'd love to get my hands on one of each, but the only store around me that would have them is Abt Electronics, and I think they only have the HC1.

Do you all have any preference towards one or the other? Any discussion or stories about either would be much appreciated.

Hi Brian, I have the HC1 but have been toying with the idea of changing to the A1 owing to the extra flexibility of the audio options. The cost however is significant so you need to be sure that the mainly audio benefits are needed.

The audio module can be removed from the AI if needed.

Michael, I knew about sonyhdvinfo.com, but I looked and they didn't have much on the A1. I looked at their comparison between the HC1 and the A1, but that's about all they have. The biggest feature I'm looking at is the cine stuff, as I WILL be attending Columbia College Chicago's filmschool next year for video editing. I would love to be able to use this camera for some short indies. I also heard that if I do use this camera, the XLRs will be a great asset when filming. Does anybody recommend a good wireless mic for this camera, I have a feeling I'll need one soon. One last question, the difference between the two prices I've found is $570. I know that I can simulate cine stuff with Final cut by changing colors, adding blurs and filters, but is it worth the $570 to save time by not needing to do all that and by not needing a seperate XLR mic box, like the beachtek?

Right now, if I had to buy one now, I'd go with the A1, if I'm gonna make the leap into HDV, I might as well make it a cannonball instead of just a dive. Anybody else have anything to add, any accessories I should get, for either camera? What about tapes, should I use sony's miniDV HDV tapes or a different brand? Any input is much appreciated.
