Q: how do I open old files in appleworks using OSX Lion?

I have some old spreadsheets in Appleworks.  Some were converted to numbers but a few haven't been.  When I attempt to open them in Lion, i get the message: "The document was created with an unsupported version of AppleWorks."  It's too late to open in a later version of AppleWorks.  Is there a translator available?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

There is some limitation onAW versions and I had to convert them with AW on an older Mac first. I think it has to be an AW 6 document.

This is from Apple: You can create a new Numbers spreadsheet by importing a document created in Microsoft Excel or AppleWorks 6.

FYI another post from 2009 I found.

The iWork (no "s") applications - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - can only open AppleWorks 6 presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents, respectively. They will not open any other type of AppleWorks 6 files or any AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks files. The third-party application, EasyDraw, can open AppleWorks draw documents. There is nothing other than AppleWorks that can open paint or database documents.

    Interesting read.
