iPhone 4s and iPad unable to update to 5.1 on device and through iTunes

Getting errors when trying to update to 5.1 on iPhone 4s and iPad 1. Iv tried to update through the device and on iTunes and its not working. Both devices are NOT jailbroken. iTunes saying network connection can not be established. And trying through iPad's software update on the device says " Unable to check for update. An error occurred while checking for a software update." And I clearly have internet connection. So not sure whats happening.

iPad, iOS 5.0.1

Ok, so I found that it seems to be a problem for some reason with my DNS Server settings from Charter. I changed my DNS Servers to Googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and now its letting me download the updates. I have no clue why this would matter. Never has been a problem before in the past but that is how I got it to work.

Thank you this seems to work for me as well I am glad you were able to figure it out this one had me stumped.. I am using WOW Internet.
