How can I revert to 4.4.4?

Does anyone know how to jump back to 4.4.4 after upgrading to 5.0?

I really do not like this latest cosmetic update, it's clunky, tacky and several steps back from the previous incarnation... My home menu is now full of oversized Icons that don't fit on the screen and that I'll never use (US Sports & News etc.) and the ones I do such as Radio are pushed to the bottom...

There really ought to be the option of hiding unwanted icons.

I have a Library with 3000+ TV Shows and 500+ Films and would of loved to of seen hirachial menus for Show Seasons on ATV come in in version 5.0.

ie. To scroll down through Smallville's 10 Seasons and Stargate's 10 Seasons is 20 Headings! and takes far longer than just the Show Name and then after selecting that into the season listings for that show only.

The Show selections lists end up 5-10 times longer than they need to be.

This same problem crops up using Remote and acesing Shared Movies from iTunes on the iPhone, I have to scroll through the 500 films before reaching the TV Shows, could not the Film and TV Show Catagories be Hirachic titles for selection first?

DITTO!

I usually look forward to Apple's updates, but this one is a bomb. I mean just the name Apple TV implies that we are looking at video, so why should things like Music and Settings be at the top of the list? If I want to play music on my Apple TV, I'll stream it from another device; and once you have the settings set, I hardly ever go into them. There would be much greater useability if I could put the icons I use must at the top, and not rely on what Apple thinks. And why do they need to be so BIG? How about making them more like the interface for iPad/iPhone? For shame, Apple! This is not what I expect from a company that prides itself on making things easier.

Similar to how I felt about AppleTV1 'Take Two' menus that shove iTunes Store in your face at every opportunity.

The point is that the home screen is not attractive and cannot be customised in any way. Whether we prefer American baseball or Persian rugs we are obliged to remain with the same large logos in the same order.

I normally look forward to Apple updates but this one has left me wondering whether I should investigate any downside before installing.

I'd love to have the BBC iPlayer,HULU, and football & rugby matches on the ATV in the US, but alas we'll be waiting a while for that.

I detect a note of sarcasm as they are of course not available in the UK! 👿

This clearly is what Apple need to explore though.

All SMART TV manufacturers will be trying to incorporate iPlayer, 4OD etc etc in their UK devices, and equivalent services in other countries.

I've always maintained that as a hobby project AppleTV probbaly hasn't had enough investment to accomplish that without farming it out to apps created by these content providers to use on a regional basis.

Hmm, they haven't mentioned hobby recently....

Actually, I think what's becoming increasingly clear is that we all like to do things slightly differently and have different preferences for the same things.

This does not just apply to the GUI.

What I think we should all increasingly petition Apple to do is to provide far more customisation.

The usual link is best:

....why not offer a 'classic or icon' based navigation, but within those options we also need the flexibility to remove MLBTV, Netflix, YouTube etc etc if we don't want them.

The ideal would probably be to have a clean slate minimal GUI with the option to enable or download plugins (or apps) to provide the extras if you wanted them. An iOS style technique of reorganising the onscreen icons would then be nice or could perhaps be accomplished through iTunes.

One can only hope. This update appears pretty half baked. Looks like it was QA tested for the new higher 1080 res ATV3 (icon size which makes a mess of the 720 home screen) and then just shlepped onto ATV2 at 720. If Apple wants to force advertising on users, they need to give these boxes away.

this is a good stop gap idea - it has my vote. I hate to say it but the MLB, WSJ et all icons now forced on us has a verrrrry strange resemblence to MS's bloatware on their PC's.
