I found out just if you reboot the system it works now. Hold menu and down at same time till light on unit flashes. Then release. It works now
it didn't work, i reset the apple tv, re confiugured it and still nothing...

Reboot did not work for me either. We first started getting this problem during the last upgrade of the ATV OS. With the new release I created a new account that was billed through Apple hoping this would solve the problem. But it doesn't. I have a Roku (which I really dislke) running on the same netwwork as the ATV and it has no problems. It is definetely an ATV problem.
In addiont Netflix does not recognise the error code (789).
Just got the ATV3. Same problem. Did the reset suggestion. Did not work.
Ok, this may or may not work. It really is the same as a reset. But...unplug (power) from your ATV and leave it unplugged for 15 or more seconds. Then plug it back in and answer the questions asked. This worked for me several weeks ago when I had the same problem.

Cycling the power like Virg suggested althought I tend to wait 30sec generally relsove issue like this. It acts like a hard reboot of the system and for the more techincally savy, you can check the ATV system logs using the Terminal app

Same with my ATV3. Resetting or unplugging the device does not enable Netflix. I've tried it several times (unplugging, rebooting), and I still get error 789. As far as I am concerned, ATV3 does not work with Netflix.
Just spoke with Netflix. My problem is caused by the very limited account I have with them. We rent one DVD at a time (max of 2 per month), and have limited amount of online streaming. The key issue is that our account does not allow us to watch online using a device such as ATV3. We are limited to using a regular computer. As they explained to me, error 789 indicates that the device being used to watch online streaming content is not compatible with the service that we subscribed to. I'll set up a separate account for streaming only, and report back if it solved the problem.
Sure enough, after signing for free 1-month trial all-streaming account, I was able to use ATV3 with Netflix fine. Error 789 was gone.
I tried that approach a few days ago (through the aTV menu) but got the same error. I will try again. But from everything I have read, the quality/selection of Netflix is probably not worth a whole lot of effort, nor the additional price.
holding down 'menu' and 'down' to do a reset worked for me. it obviously didnt work for everybody, but it did for me after recieving the 'please try again later (789)' error message.
