so... just like the title says. after installing ox lion on my macbook pro, sometimes it freezes right after start up, and I could not click on anything, and i had to force it to shut down by holding the power button.

I don't know if anybody else have the same problem or not? is it a bug or something? hope it can be solved soon.....

Boot to Lion Recovery and check to see if it stops responding while you use Safari from there.

    Test in Safe Boot.

Create a new user if Safe Boot works and then restart and log in as that new user.

To find out how to do these steps, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199.

    Hi ...

sometimes it freezes right after start up,

See if you can do this before it freezes ...

Go to Sytsem Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab. Delete any items you see there.

And check MacHD > Library > StartupItems. Delete any apps you see listed there.

    Restart your Mac.

If you can't do that before it freezes, boot in Safe Mode

A Safe Mode boot takes a little longer than a normal boot. Once you see the Desktop, follow the same instructions. When you're done, cick the Apple menu icon. From the drop down menu click Restart.

If you do Safe Boot and it doesn't stop responding, remove the items the previous person mentioned.

You are responding to me or the OP ??

If you are trying to reply to the OP, please do not restate someone else's suggestions.

it does not always does it~ I tried holding command and R while retarting, and used the utility disk to fix the problem. after verifying the disk, it says theres some problem, but it fixed it. then, I restart the computer and it freezes again. Also, every time it is starting up, the white background with apple icon screen will turn grey for a couple second, and then it will turn to the desktop screen. I don't know if the problem has something to do with that...

Did you try my suggestions for removing login items and any apps listed in /Library/StartupItems ??

  • dongyue Level 1 (0 points)

yes I tried it, it did not freeze this time, but I don't know if it is going to happen again. Thank you! Do you know anything about the start up screen turning grey? Is it normal? it was not like that before I install OX lion..

  • Carolyn Samit Level 10 (103,360 points)

It's normal for the screen to startup with the gray screen and Apple logo.

  • dongyue Level 1 (0 points)

it did not start up grey. Here's how it happens,

    1. white screen

    2. white screen with apple logo

    3. the white background with apple logo turns grey

and then to the the desktop screen

but before I install the OX Lion

    it was like this

    1. white screen

    2. white screen with apple logo

and then to the the desktop screen

I just don't know if this is showing some sort of problem...

    thanks!

I just don't know if this is showing some sort of problem..

If your Mac boots to the Desktop without freezing, nothing to worry about. The screen color may vary somewhat betweeen one Mac OS X to another.

This can help startup issues also.

Disable the Lion "resume" feature ...

    Open System Preferences > General

Deselect:  Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps

It happened again. My Mac pro freezes right after it start up. I have to force it to shut down by holding the power button. Do you know more about this issue by chance?

    Hi !

I'd created my own topic too about this issue here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3866560

But no response... seems to be a massive problem with Macbook Pro

The key of this problem is: you can't type everything in every boot mode because keyboard & mouse don't response since you see the login prompt...

The only solution I've find is to re-install Lion... so you don't loss any data... but, for me, it's not a valid solution.

And after a Lion re-install, the problem should reappear soon or not.

Maybe this explain why Mountain Lion will be release very soon & not in a free upgrade for Lion users...
