I loaded rented movies (from iTunes) to my iPad2. But when I try to play, a pop up advises that it cannot open the film. This is happening with each movie loaded. Can someone advise what I might be doing wrong?

Is your iPad connected to the internet when starting the movie?
No. When I was traveling and rented last time, I could watch on the airplane with no internet connection.
I've had the same experience (watch with no internet connection) but when you rented last time, did you have an internet connection when you first started the movie?
No I didn't have internet connection the first time except to download the movies. Frustrating thing is, I came back home today, tried to play the movie and it worked since it was hooked up to wifi. Then I turned off wifi and it still worked. 😟
I suspect it worked when offline because you had a connection when you started the movie.
Like you, I'm pretty certain I've started a rented/downloaded iTunes movie without a connection but many have reported they could not. A Google search will show that some have and some haven't... I have no idea at this point. 😕
I did see that people suggested hooking up to the internet to make it work. But the reason I want to watch a movie on my iPad is because I'm traveling with no wifi access. Is there somewhere I should 'lodge a complaint'?

Note that there seems to be some confusion about this, i.e. whether you need a connection to start the move.. Google for more info... there's lots. 😉
This happens on one of our newer iPads. But not on the iPad 1 I use. There's definitely a bug withy the newer iPads or IOS.
The iPad 1 has a different bug - It can't download an entire movie. Gs to about 99% and starts again. I have to download to a PC then transfer it. Also - last time it didn't delete the movie after 24 hours - I hope they never fix that bug.
