Syncing new ipad next week to the cloud

Hi to everyone, my first time here and I very much doubt my last time 🙂

I have an iPod touch 4 that syncs to the cloud, next week I will have a new iPad as well. After taking the iPad out of the box, what needs to be done so the ipad syncs with my cloud account? Is it simply a matter of signing in with my Apple ID?
