I'm having this same error, for the same reason (after updated to iTunes 10.6).

I was getting this error when I tried to update apps, after upgrading to iTunes 10.6.

I took RJBokleman's advice and tried quitting and restarting.

It worked. I was able to download the App Updates with no problems.

While re-creating the library might fix the problem, it's a bit more complex for those of us with over 30K song ttiles...

This happened only when we upgraded, so it's not us that's the problem - something is different in itunes. Like others, it happens only when I downloads apps or podcasts - the rest of itunes works fine.

I woudl hope there's a better solution than making me do a few hours of work, with no guarentee of success...

Quitting and restarting fixed it for a week or so, but it has returned. I'll try a permissions repair as well. Is there no way to check a log to see exactly what operation is failing?

My issue happened when I tried to airplay a recently added movie to my apple TV and the thread that Limnos recommended had a couple people that just quit and reopened iTunes and it solved the issue. Mine stopped reporting the -54 error but the airplay for the movie still wouldn't work. Re-creating the library fixed the airplay issue. I'll check back in if the error reoccurs as it did for Johnmc Boston.

This is has now happened twice to me with version 10.6.3.

Had this issue today... iTunes 11.0.4, and quitting and reopening iTunes seems to have worked.
