is there a way to play a movie that is on my ipod on my smart tv?

My goal is to purchase a movie from itunes and then put it onto my ipod touch and then connect it to my Sony Bravia TV. When I did this the TV tells me that the device could not be found. I called Sony about it and they said that I would have to change something in my setting on my IPOD. I am not sure what needs to be changed on my IPOD. Any ideas?
