No sound on iPhone 4S after iOS 5.1 update

try resetting the settings

settings>general>reset>reset all settings

when the phone comes back on you will have to set up locations, apple id, wifi etc, choose set up as a new phone, no info was actually erased so its not neccisary to do that

This doesn't work. I have exactly the same problem. Resettign and hard restart has no effect.

There is a bug in 5.1 with sound.

I have the same problem. Right after installing 5.1. Tried resetting all setting and a hard reset, neither helped. Mute switch is NOT on. When I press the volume up/down keys the volume 'pop-up' appears but without any indication of any volume level.

The ringing and calls work fine (including speakerphone), but no sound from apps, Siri, etc.

HELP!

I have the same problem and the volume bar doesn't show up in any app. Please fix! This is a huge problem.

"So, a hard reset didn't work for me, neither did reset all settings.

After Macteen's comment I did two more hard resets, and it brought back Siri's sound, but still no app sounds.

So I did an 'erase everything' and restore. That worked. All sounds are back. It was a bit of a pain - especially since I don't normally sync apps on this phone (my iPad and my wife's iPhone also hook up to this computer, and we don't want to 'cross-polinate' apps), but it worked... better than exchanging for a new one."

when you write "Reset" , does that mean the power button+front key restart, or the "reset" function in settings>general>reset?

Something is up with 5.1, it was supposed to address battery life, but I find my battery life cut in half over 5.0.

Problem Solved! Used a hair dryer and turned it on the connector. Phone was stuck in dock connector mode.

iPad 1 (First version) audio quit working after 5.1 update on many applications such as:

Lock sounds, notifications, games such as Tower Madness and Words With Friends.

However, Pandora works. I tried a hard reset (system restore) and reinstalled all my apps and account info.

Any suggestions?

(No sound from videos) I had the same problem and found that my blue tooth was sending the sound to another bluetooth device. Once I disabled the bluetooth on my iphone the sound to my video returned. Good luck.

Same problem - did 5.1 update and now my speaker only works intermittently :-(

Volume up I had no volume bars . Nothing. I went to my setting. General. Bluetooth. Turned off Bluetooth and it all works.....***. Last time I checkedy bluetooth eraser doesn't play my music volume or my movies. I wish. Making laiteninf to music while having a stupid earpiece on all day for work would be great.

All the talking about Bluethooth, which was already switched off on my phone without bringing back the sound, I realised that my problem could still be the same: a problem with the sound output.

So I hooked up a headphone and indeed... sound workes. But without it, it still doesn't.

The only difference with Bluethooth is.. I can't turn of a headphone that isn't there!
