I have an iBook and a pdf version of a Family Stories book of 82 pages consisting of pictures and lots of text; I have lost the original (or at least the file won't open) iauthor creation of the Family Stores book. What I want to find a way to do is use one or other of the existing Family Stories book and import materials back into iauthor. Now you seem to suggest that I can't go directly from one to the other? Using your method via Pages and then importing back into iauthor, it appears that I would have to one page at a time. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance,

GH

@Fernando Gol - That is expected with iBooks Author. You'd need to create a Read Aloud (EPUB 3) if you want the audio to continue to play from page to page without stopping. Read Aloud books cannot be created with iBooks Author at this time.

The closest thing you'd be able to do with iBooks Author is to add the images and audio to a keynote file and add the Keynote file to iBooks Author as a widget. When you open the book, you are essentially cycling through the Keynote via iBooks Author widget.

Depending on the version of your macOS and version of Keynote, you may have to export the Keynote as Keynote 09 version if you can't import to iBooks Author.

It's really hard to say without seeing the files. How old is your source iBooks Author (.iba) file that won't open? Getting that to open would be ideal.

Was the PDF version you have exported from iBooks Author? Depending on he PDF, assuming the iBooks Author file won't open, it may not be that difficult to extract the contents of the PDF so you can rebuild the book.

Try this instead...

• Open your PDF in Preview (the application) - select all and copy to the clipboard.

• Create a new document in Pages...paste and verify. Save that document.

• Create a new book in iBA (template choice is yours) - use the menu to 'Insert Chapter From Pages or WORD document'. ...locate the Pages file you just saved and go.

I've used this with very little issue, so I know it works...images and all. I'd be interested in how it turns out for your use, tho, thanks and good luck.

Do you want to convert the PDF to a entire 200 page ibook or have the PDF as a widget inside a ibook on a single page and be able to page through that pdf/widget like the gallery widget?

I may have misunderstood you, I thought the later.

to convert to a entire book, KT's method would be the way to go,

I could not get it to work, (lost the graphics, and strange formattting) but I may have been doing something wrong. tried it a few times with different multi page PDFs.

another issue is the change in format if the original PDF is 8.5 x 11 (portrait) and IBA being landscape etc.

Good luck
