Need help re: Unable to update apps error: NSInternalInconsistencyException

The app store reports that I have 2 updates avaiable for purchased apps. However, when I select update the app store attempts to download the update momentarily then reports the following error: Cannot download update; NSInternalInconsistencyException. What gives? I am running OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro. Never had any problem before with App Store. Please help?
