what is iCloud?

What is iCloud? Can I use it as a storage unit for photos etc?

That's not entirely correct, only IOS documents can be stored in iCloud and music is handled by iTunes not iCloud, there is NO photo storage other than a limited (in time) stream from PhotoStream.


If the OP wants to store files, be they docs, spreadsheets or pictures iCloud will not do that.
