Q: 2wire vs Airport

I have DSL with a 2Wire G modem connected to my Mini via ethernet. I use the 2Wire for wifi in my home. I can understand that the G is fast enough for DSL but isn't it a compromise for all other sharing? Do I need an Airport?

Airport Extreme and 3 Airport Express units...

 

No problem with sharing or streaming...

 

There are cheaper wireless routers out there but with all Apple products, why settle for less.

Plus, AirPlay over stereos or powered speakers or even TV with the Apple TV...

 

I will buy another Extreme when this one dies someday...

    Only if you are sharing things around the home with other computers and streaming music etc.

    In that case, it would be faster with an Airport "n" version.

     

    Do you share a lot of files around the house?

     

    It is hard to beat an Airport Extreme as the main base station for all around home sharing with Apple devices.

    Yes. Sharing and streaaming media. AppleTV and 2 iPads.

    I don't think you will be dissapointed....

     

    Plus, the Extreme has 3 ethernet ports for plugging in other network devices like hard wired printers, other computers that don't have wireless, etc...

    Do you need the Expresses for coverage and range? I have a small 1,100 sq ft house and would like wifi in the garage.

    I use 2 Airport Express units to "Join" the network and use them for AirPlay in the Front Room and my Office..

     

    I have one Express that "Extends" the network so I get coverage in an outbuilding Studio for my wife and in the Garage for me....

     

    Lots of things to experiment with when you have all Apple base stations as opposed to 3rd party units...

    You can only "Extend" the range when using all Apple base stations... No 3rd party devices....
