ICloud has jammed my IPad 2, how do I clear it or fix it?

I have a msg on my IPad saying ICloud backup cannot access my gmail account. But it will not respond to the 2 choices of either ignore or settings. It is as though it is frozen up.
Try this to free up the iPad again.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
