Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive

I was look around the MacBook Pro, getting more and more excited to finally get mine (I havent ordered it yet, but I will be soon). Anyways, under the list of included software it says: Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive.

What does it mean by Test Drive!? Is it just a trail version and I'd have to buy the full version or what!?

Currently a dell, switching to apple soon (but not soon enough!), Windows XP

yep.. that's the whole office package, you can use it for 30 days and if you wanna use it after this period you need to enter a valid serial number. In order to enter a VALID serial number you need to buy Office from a retail shop. When you do this you don't actually have to install the office applications as they are already in the system, all you have to do is putting the serial number in the box sold with the cds. 😉

It's really even worse, because the printing is disabled. The Test Drive software is what I call Junkware.

So i was just thinking about this and completely forgot to ask about it before.

Im considered a student. Will the Student/Teacher edition work to "unlock" the Test Drive program!?

It worked for me ... but that was on my current rig two years ago. So hopefully they haven't changed that perk.

Sorry to hijack, but - Does anyone know how the student purchases work anyway? I am a student, but when I ordered my MBP, I simply selected my college and nothing else was required ... do they cross reference with the schools?

For MS Office, you do not need to actually verify student status. That's why you can buy it on Amazon and other outlets without the verification forms to fill out.

Parents of students comply with the rules also! 🙂

That is all I had to do as well. I assumed at the time that they would contact my school somehow to confirm my enrollment.

Right, I know you dont need to verify your a student or anything... But will it unlock the Test Drive mode still, or do you need a serial code number that comes only from the regular edition?

i am a student and i plan on purchasing the student edition of microsoft office-- my university sells a discounted version that does not include packaging. will this work? this discounts it beyond the 140$ b/c it does not include packaging

Yes it will work. I almost bought the unpackaged version for myself.

The reason I have yet to do it is because I wanted to wait. My trial said it would work for 30 days, but unexpectadly unded after 3 days. Grr I was mad.
Now I am hesitating because I wonder if it would be wiser to wait for the universal edition to come out as I imagine it would run a little bit faster.

Is it worth the wait?
