Void the warranty. It is absolutely worthless anyway. I have had my iPad 2 for 3 months, dropped a quarter on the screen from 6 inches and it cracked. I took it to the apple store and the cheapest option, only option actually, was $250. I bought my iPad for $350 at a SAMs club. Absolutely ridiculous. My advice, take it to somewhere to fix it. Or sell it on eBay and get a new one. Even that option is cheaper than the joke of customer service they have at apple.

Great products, terrible customer help.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

iPad model Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
iPad mini $219
iPad 3rd, 4th generation $299
iPad 2, iPad $249

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

I do not recall your contribution to the thread. And I've thoroughly read your thoughtful comments. You've responded only as to though you've taken the comments and made them personal for no reason.

My contribution was to avoid the apple store, because they do not offer help without paying close to the same amount of money as a new iPad. It's cheaper and just as effective to use a separate outside repair shop.

You have cracked your iPad on your own account but demands that you can have it replaced/repaired for free and you also recommend taking it somewhere else for repair.

Do you know if the repair was no good from someehere else you have void all options from Apple and this forum.

You call that your contribution?

No, it's not personal but your contribution seems more like it. Why don't you man up, you broke it, you pay for it. Isn't that simple.

Just so that you know here the warranty statement

People purchase products, not only for the quality, but also the forgiving customer service. Accidents obviously happen, considering a cracked LCD happened to the user who started this thread and myself. I dropped a quarter from 6 inches, it ended up being a $250 accident.

I have read and am familiar with the warranty. I can quote it if you'd like, but that would be redundant. The point of this thread is to provide options to users so that they can decide for themselves. I know that it voids the warranty. The warranty, if you read it, is voided by most of the incidents that can happen to your apple product. I disagree with the warranty in its entirety. The Genius Bar made the suggestion that if $250 was too expensive, then to look into an outside repair shop.

This is pointless and does not help mpennock. You can continue if it makes you feel better, but just know that you aren't always the only person who has a correct answer for somebody's issue.

I've said what I wanted to say. You are familiar with the warranty great, so why all this whinning?

I didn't answer at all since the correct answer was already provided by Skydiver and Texas Mac Man.

What your point?

If you didn't answer at all then why are you posting. I didn't hear skydiver or Texas Mac man say a word after their posts. Your profile says you don't even have an iPad.

I am posting to point you out since you are not helping and OP has already the answer. My profile is not for you to see. So as usual you're guessing. I have more than you ever need. My whole family uses Apple devices. (iMacs, iPhones, iPod Classics, iPod touches and iPads. I don't give advises what I don't use myself.

Read up a bit before you post. You just join to here whin because Apple didn't give a free repair. Man up. Nothing is free in this world. Learn to be responsible for your actions.
