The only place you are going to get a military discount on apple products (especially the iPad 3rd generation) is at a military exchange. I've checked and double checked. Apple has online web pages for military, government, and education discounts. However, when you go to those sites the prices are the same as going directly to the Apple Home Page. It's very misleading. I love Apple products. However, did you know that Apple provides manufacturing employment to more than 35,000 people in China? Did you know that Apple makes more money and profit than any other single company in the world? What is unfortunate is that Apple has done absolutely nothing to provide solid paying jobs to Americans here on USA soil and we are the largest buyers of Apple products. Apple could move manufacturing here to the USA, provide high paying jobs to US Citizens and still make enormous amounts of profit. In fact, could you imagine the loyalty that would be built up for the very long haul if Apple Execs did that and then advertised it? Huge!

Absolute hogwash.

Do you know how many people are employed at their corporate office in Cupertino, or at their campus in Austin, TX? How about the jobs involved with app developers for the app store? How about all the 3rd party products associated with the iPod, iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone?

Clueless.

I've traveled the globe many times in uniform and in the corporate world-and in volunteer civilian service (here and abroad). No hogwash about my statements. Manufacturing jobs are higher paying jobs than most office jobs (excluding supervisors and management). My PhD is computer science & I know what I'm talking about! BTW I play in the corporate world on a global scale. Notice in my comments I said that I love Apple Products? I still buy them as well. Further, I was simply providing some insight and discussion. There is a huge difference between discussion, opinion, and "politics - & I've had a successful political stint as well. If I offended you, my apologies, truly! I'm also based in California, a professor & used to open minds! Colonel Dan

Apple advertises a military and government employee discount, through their EPP store. The store homepage states it offers special pricing to military, federal, & state/local employees. However when you actually order a product (iPad, iPhone, iPod, apple TV, and refurbished iPad - tried them all today), the pricing is full retail. Figuring I did something wrong, I called the EPP store this morning (877-EPP-MEMBER) and was told that federal employees, retired military, and military show full retail price. Seems like false advertising or fraud to me! We have 4 iPhones, 2 iPads, a Mac and wanted to add another iPad, not sure now I want to give apple any more of my $. Really angry right now about the false advertisement and misrepresentation!!!! Gives the public image that apple is military/gov employee friendly which is completely untrue, and maybe even not legal - will have to find out about that...

That is _not_ true. Indeed Apple offers a discount on their EPP site.

I had two tabs opened in my browser - (one "Govt" or "Military" and the other 'retail') and compared the two side-by-side.

Shopping for a MBPr I save $100 per unit. While it doesn't seem like a lot, Apple is notorious for NEVER giving ANYONE ANY 'savings' so this is, at least, something. Purchase on-line from a state where Apple doesn't have a physical store, (or have it shipped thee) and you'll save even more by not having to pay the taxes. In my case, I'd save $170+.

Keep poking about, find a store that'll honor that same (Govt) savings, and I'll bet you could find yet a better deal.

I purchased the first version of MBAir, I saved even more by simply calling Apple, sending them my Retired Military ID. I don't recall exactly what it was, that was a few years ago but seem to recall it a full 10% vice the $100 - Please don't post that again, or edit it, as Apple in it's infinate wisdom to NEVER offer a discount, demonstrated to me, they appreciate our "men/women serving" - even if it's just a little bit o'cash.

FYi - jobs - http://www.apple.com/about/job-creation/

Also, Exxon Mobile, makes greater profit than Apple. Royal Dutch Shell is ranked #1 globally by revenue, but not by profit. Oil companies have dominated the top 500 most profitable companies, and by revenue, for years.
